Vodo di Cadore

Beautiful little town of Cadore situated at a height of 910m in the Boite Valley, 17kms away from Cortina, Vodo di Cadore extends into a green natural valley on the left of the river Boite, below the hill of Santa Lucia and between the Mounts Pelmo and Antelao.
The area is also defined as "Oltrechiusa" because it is located upstream of the sluice or "Chiusa" of Venas di Cadore. An artificial dam creates the lake of Vodo that feeds the hydroelectric plants of Pontesei.
The town has preserved its ancient appearance that can be seen at the entrance of the town on the austere town hall and the elementary school.
Testimonials of the ancient traditions are still present in the forests around the town, where the so-called "Taula'" are spread everywhere. These are old barns, built with a mix of masonry and wood, where local families spend their weekends relaxing immersed in the nature. >>><<<

In the surroundings of Vodo there are ancient huts or“Malghe”, as the “Malga Ciauta” hut, where the milk processing allows the production of typical cheeses of the area.
One of the oldest settlements of the region of Cadore is the little town of Vinigo that, for its panoramic position overlooking the Boite Valley, is called the "terrace of the Dolomites."

The small village is typical for its architecture and has a great historical and artistic interest for its church which houses some of the frescoes of the School of Tiziano, with an altar on which there is a painting featuring a Madonna with Child between Saint John the Evangelist and John the Baptist, attributed to the painter Francesco Vecellio, brother of the famous Tiziano.
In the summer, around Vodo sports such as mountain biking are practiced, thanks to the presence of the bike path of the Dolomites also hiking trails of varying lengths and difficulties are available.
Many excursions can be covered in winter with snowshoes, and ice skating enthusiasts will find their own entertainment in the locality of Palada, on a natural ice rink covered by a wooden structure.
Another interesting sports and leisure activity is the “Stock sport", or "curling", even on the asphalt, an old Bavarian sport practiced mainly in the areas of Cadore and South Tyrol.
